Research and planning: Teaser trailer conventions
This teaser trailer for night mare on elm street follows the conventions of a teaser trailer as it uses non-degetic sound as the music is played over the nervous bits of the film (when you expect something to happen) and also it has a voice over of the little girl counting to 10, there are jump cuts of the main character wich gives you an idea of what the film is going to be about but not too much, there are also jump cuts to the other characters and the closeups of the emotions on there faces show that something bad is going to happen. The closeups of the characters show the fear and the situation that there in and also the long shots of the main charcater (evil) shows how dominant he is in the location that they are in, and how isolated the other characters are.
In this teaser trailer 'let me in', there is non digetic music played, closeups again are used to show the emotion of the characters faces and again the fear and isolation that the young boy is amongst. Jump cuts again are used in this horror teaser trailer, the jump cuts switch from the main character (evil) to show how dominant she is, and then switches to the little boy and to the trouble that the little girl has caused, jump cuts switch to the police cars/vans with the sirens on and a long shot is used to show the amount of trouble there actually is. Long shots are used to show the dominance of the main character against the other characters including adults and groups of people. The strange happenings of the teaser attract your attention and also its a story line which many people go through, for example, many people move into new homes and want to get to know there neighbors better, so this film could attract a wide audience.

Research and planning: group meeting
I am working with Saira bibi. We have both decided that I will be in charge of the mise-en-scene, Saira will be in charge of the cinematography. We are both going to share the sound and editing tasks.
We have both had the idea of using both of our 8 year old sisters to star in our trailer, me and my little sister Libbie will be walking through the woods when Sairas little sister stalks us and kills my younger sister, we then find out theat Sairas younger sister has killed Saira and become possesed.

Research and planing: audience theories
The hypodermic model:
This model holds that the intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver.

The Cultivation theory:
Social theory which examined the long term effects of television on american audience of all ages.

Desensitization theory:
People are exposed to so much violence in the media, violence no longer makes a strong, emotional impact.

Modelling or copycat theory:
Something publicized in the media that creates a lot of attention.
Uses and Gratifications theory:
Why people use particular media rather than on content. (what the media does to people)

research and planning: audience interviews
These are 2 interviews I carried out with 2 of my classmates that are the perfect audience for my teaser trailer, I asked Nathan and Louise a number of questions and got answers that will help me create my teaser trailer, both have simular answers to the questions I asked them,
resarch and planning: questionnaire
I created 10 questionnaires to see what my target audience wanted from a horro trailer. My results varified and I got many different ones back, however some of the results I could use for my own teaser trailer, I found out from the results that everyone I had asked have seen a horror so every one I asked knew what to expect from my teaser trailer. Everyone i had asked said that the censorship on my trailer should either be a 15 or an 18 cirtificate and this was because the higher the age the better the film/trailer. Alot of the people I asked also said that they watch a film after seeing the trailer because of the twist it gives, all 12 people I also asked knew the difference between a teaser trailer and a normal trailer. The characters that everyone would like to see in a horror film was either a child or a man that saves the rest of the people from the 'bad' guys. Most of the people chose a supernatural or real life situations as the plot. Mainly people watch the films/trailers in the cinema on DVD. New ideas and the twist in the story line makes people want to watch the film. These questionnaires have given me ideas that i will focus with when creating my own teaser trailer.
Research and planning: analysis of teaser trailer
Strangers trailer
Genre: The genre of this teaser trailer is horror.
Representation: the representation of a horror film, represented in this trailer are the 'bad' guys, they are represented as scary individual characters that have there own individual look/style, for example in this trailer they have what looks like a bag over there head and have a strange voice which alone automatically makes you scared, the couple that are being tormented in this film are just a genuine young couple who have moved into a new home.
Narrative: the narrative of this film is shown in the trailer, a new couple move into a new area/new house and are tormented by the people who lived there before, this is shown through the horror genre.
Audience: the audience for this film links with the representation, the male/female are represented as a new couple who have moved into a new home together, the audience can relate to this as many people have gone through this situation.
Media language
sound: The sound used in this trailer is the usual type for a horror film, this includes the typical soundtrack over the trailer which is an eary sound, the loud noises drag the audiences attention to wondering what the bang was and when the strange characters come on 'the bad guys' the music is played over the top which is a scary soundtrack, this again drags the audience in.
lighting: like a usual horror trailer the lighting in this trailer is low key, this is one of the conventions of a horror film which automatically shows you the genre.
Mise-en-scene: the mise-en-scene in this trailer is the candles, which are usually used in horror films, usually to bring out the spirits but the low key lighting also plays a part. The costumes of the characters show you t
Cinematography:jumpcuts are mainly used throughout this trailer to show small clips of what happens in the film, this is common for the horror genre for trailers as it gets the audience wanting to watch the film to see the storyline and what happens.
- closeup shots are used to show the emotions on the characters faces and also the seriousness and danger of the 'bad guys' towards the other characters.
-longshots are used to show the whole situation in which the characters are in and to show what's happening in the whole thing.
-midshots are used to show the emotions of the characters
-over the shoulder shots are used to show the dominance of the main characters (the ones used to scare you) and also to show the situation the characters in.
In this film there is alot of low key lighting, a the start of the film there is a loud bang and alls you can hear is the swinging of the swings ouside, and the door locks which connotes build up to tension, When the man goes outside there are shaddows and voices that he can hear which also connotes build up to tension, when all the bad things happen and the strangers appear there is a build up of louder music which catches the watchers attention and makes you expect to jump any minute, the trailer leaves you hanging wanting to find out the rest of the story line. Alot of wide shots are used in this trailer, wide shots are used to show the isolation of the characters and they also show how dominant the setting is and that basically the characters have no escape.
mirrors trailer
Genre: the genre of this trailer is also horror as horror is the genre I have picked for my teaser trailer.
Representations: The people who star in mirrors again are just a usual family with children who move into a new house and are tormented by the mirrors, the representations of the actors/actresses again attract a wide audience as the audience can relate to the situation, again this trailer doesn't have a limit for the age a person has to be to watch the film.
Narrative: the narrative of this trailer is basically a new family that are tormented by the mirrors and the only way to fix it is to find the person the people in the mirror want. The male is expected to do this as males in films are usually the heros that save the rest of the 'gang' at the end.
Audience: this film attracts a wide audience (who likes horrors) as people can relate to it, many people move into new homes with unexpected things happening, the audience have to like scary films and enjoy the 'teaser' storyline which leaves you wondering what goes on in the film.
Sound: the sound used in this trailer again is the soundtrack over the scenes, this connotes an eary atmosphere and makes you watch it, the music gets louder when the scary scenes of the film are shown in the trailer, when the strange things happen the music either goes silent with screams or louder and suddenly stops.
Lighting: The lighting in this trailer is also low key which is a typical convention for a horror trialer/film.
Mise-en-scene: The mise-en-scene in this trailer is again the typical for a horror film/trailer, the house looks haunted, and the 'church' looks as though something bad is going to happen.
Cinematography: In this trailer jump cuts are used to show the main parts of the film, long shots and wide shots are used to show the dominance of the main characters of the film and how dominant the house/area is towards the other characters.
In This film there are wide shots again of the isolation of the surroundings and the dominance it has, there are screams as a voice over which connotes this film is also a horror, there are jump cuts to newspaper clips which shows that this is a detective story, the little boys reflection stays in the mirror as the little boy moves, and whatever happens to the reflections in the mirror happens to the person in real life, there are alot more jump cuts to the main parts of the film and what is happeneing as the trailer goes on. The conventions of this trailer automaically tell you it is a horror film.

research and planning: photoshop recap
This is a poster for a horror film I created using photoshop, I already knew how to use photo shop but just needed to recap, I knew how to insert a picture onto my page, I also knew how to insert and change the text style. For the image I used the gradient tool which made the image blend in with the background, I didnt know how to use this before recapping so that is something I have to practice.
Research and planning: regulation and censorship
The film I am going to be producing will be an 18 certificate, this is because it will be very gory and contain a lot of killing, I think an 18 is acceptable for the certificate as some parents are concerned about the films their children are watching.
My teaser trailor will be rated a 15 so it can be viewed by a wider audience, also the trailor wont be as bad as the actual film so it won't show any of the more violent things.

Research and Planning: The Test
In this test me and Saira worked together to create a story line where Saira plays a thief who mugs me on the street. As she grabs my bag she runs away whilst I chase her, I catch up to her so she drops the bag and I am happily reconciled with my bag.in this test we used the thieves point of view shot to create an immediate effect of what was going to happen, the zoom/closeup of my bag connotes the thief has it in sight, another closeup shows my emotion as Saira steals the bag, a long shot shows Saira running off with my bag as I chase her, there is then another closeup of my bag and another of the emotion on my face when I find my bag.
Research and Planning: Genre Research
Horror genre
A horror film is one of those films that leave the audience scared and weary of things, or digusted and ashamed. Horror films
Action genre
I find that the typical codes and conventions of acion films are;
-usually a main villian
-fighting goes on a lot in the film
-action films usualy have a high budget
-the protagonist is usually a male
-usually have a glamorous female character
-a big story line, something really bad is happening and a group of people are expected to fix it.
Commedy
The commedy genre can be looked at from 2 different perspectives, one way in which comedy is seen is humerous, Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais are examples of this, this type makes people laugh and puts them in a good mood, and another type of commedy is the slapstick commedy, when actions and gestures are used to get the wanted reaction from the audience.
Rom-com
The rom com genre is another genre I have looked at, the typical rom com film is based on romance but in a humerous way, the rom-com genre usually attracts a very wide audience (mainly the older tenns/ adults) but doesn't have an age limit as many people in relationships can relate to it, rom com films are usually based on the typical male/female relationships that has either problems that get solved at the end and they live happily ever after and have the dream wedding etc, or basically just looking at the lives of a couple with a humorous. Twist to it which also attracts its audience.
