research and planning: film poster analyses 1

A long shot shows a dog and a little boy in the woods, egnima codes are used in this poster as we are unsure of who the protagonist is, the little boy is surrounded by low key lighting which suggests he is more of the evil character in the film. The colours black, grey and white give us a sense of the genre as the location is very dark and shadowy. From the title and the image we can get a sense of the narrative that of a boy whom causes evil to happen, perhaps he has lost his parents/family? The little boy is being objectified as he is the only one in the shot, the dog is acting like a body guard against anything bad, this may give clues to the audience that of being the teens/early 20 years, as most horror films are based on these ages, the regulation for horror films is usually a 15 or an 18, this again gives the audience type to be an older teen. The tagline says 'the prophecy is clear, the signs are unmistakable, on the 6th day of the 6th month in the year 2006, his day will come' gives us the sense of the narrative, the number 666 relates to the devil, this could mean that the child is possessed. You can tell that this is a film poster as is includes the production company logos and cast and crew titles.
